FOP2 + ELASTIX 2.3.0

Hiya guys, I'm currently using ELastix 2.3.0 with x30 Cisco SPA303 handsets for a call center environment and I would like to be able to allow certain members of staff (i.e our floor manager etc) to be able to listen in on calls for performance and training purposes.

My main questions are below:

[u:3ug2ke6s]Ref Install/Uninstall[/u:3ug2ke6s]

1, I noticed that FOP2 is available for installation via Elastix addon section, as a trial and buy now option. Is the trial version a fully usable version, if so how long will it last ?

2, If I click either the TRIAL or BUY now version what is the exact procedure or length of time that they will take to install?

3, If clicked the install the FOP2 addon be it the TRIAL or BUY NOW option found in the ADDON section of Elastix, will it affect the servers normal operations or will i need down time to configure anything before it can be used again as before?

4, If I decided that I wanted to remove the FOP2 from the server, is it simply a case of selecting an uninstall or remove option found within the ADDON section of elastix or is there more to it than that; if so is there any down time?

[u:3ug2ke6s]Ref FOP2 Services[/u:3ug2ke6s]

1, I've read that FOP2 has the ability to allow a WHISPER mode and spying, now once FOP2 is installed are all of its functions controlled and managed solely from the interface only, or could my floor manager simple dial in to whisper mode from his Cisco SPA303 handset by dialing a code, extension and password once FOP2 is installed?

2, If our floor manager or other management used the FOP interface from their windows PC and selected an extension that they wanted to listen to, will it still allow them to do this from their CISCO SPA303 phones or would they have to do this using a soft-phone and headset plugged up to windows machine?

3, If I bought FOP2 today and installed it on my Elastix 2.3.0 server, will the FOP2 license be locked to this server or will I still be able to use it when I upgrade to another version of Elastix or FreePBX at a later date?

I'm hoping to buy this today or by the end of this week they latest, so I would greatly appreciate it if someone could run though my questions and let me know, before I trial or buy this add-on.

Many Thanks
SOUK

  • 1, I noticed that FOP2 is available for installation via Elastix addon section, as a trial and buy now option. Is the trial version a fully usable version, if so how long will it last ?

It is fully usable but limited to 15 buttons on screen. (the demo does not include the full license features, namely IM web chat and voicemail explorer, but those features are not related to call listenting/whispering).
2, If I click either the TRIAL or BUY now version what is the exact procedure or length of time that they will take to install?

It should not take long, download an rpm file and install it on disk, perhaps a couple of minutes or less.

It does not affect server operation, nor disrupts any ongoing calls.
4, If I decided that I wanted to remove the FOP2 from the server, is it simply a case of selecting an uninstall or remove option found within the ADDON section of elastix or is there more to it than that; if so is there any down time?

Yes, just uninstall, there is no more than that unless you want to move the license to another server, in that case you should perform some commands on the server command line. In any case there is no downtime of voice services as fop2 is an external application.

FOP2 sends a command to asterisk to start whispering, asterisk then rings your phone , when you pickup you will listen to the ongoing call. FOP2 is not a softphone, it works as a helper to your current handset, either hard or soft.
2, If our floor manager or other management used the FOP interface from their windows PC and selected an extension that they wanted to listen to, will it still allow them to do this from their CISCO SPA303 phones or would they have to do this using a soft-phone and headset plugged up to windows machine?

They will use their phone always, FOP2 launches the command, but does not perform any audio processing.

Yes, the license will be locked to that server, if you want to upgrade servers or move the license, you can do that but you will have to perform some maintenance commands on the server command line, there is no way to move the license around using the web gui.
  • Thank you very much for your reply.

I've just installed the demo to try it out before I take the plunge and buy the full version, but If im honest I can't get my head around setting up via the interface. All the instructions I can find online suggest editing files rather than setting FOP2 up by its interface.

Are there any video tutorials anywhere, with clear instructions?

I created a user but when I log-in i can't get the action toolbar to appear; I found a note in the FAQ section of your website that suggested the following:
In order for the action toolbar to appear, you MUST login with an extension that is also listed in the extensions list. If there is no matching button for the extension your are loggin as, the toolbar will not be displayed, as FOP2 will not be able to figure out the device to use for performing the actions. If you are using the free version, you must have to login with an extension that is part of the first 15 buttons displayed.

I made my extension appear in the extension list but it still doesn't appear.

    I hope someone can help!
  • Okay, so I rebooted my server and its working great. I will test it for the rest of this week and then make the purchase so I can listen in on all my extensions. Thank you very much for your help... ;)
