I cannot connect. Running FOP2 from Ubuntu LAMP. Also getting htaccess error. Any ideas?

You should be a little more verbose on your description. I have no idea what "htaccess error" means, so I cannot say if that is related or not to your connection problem.
If you cannot connect, you should follow this troubleshooter

And check every item mentioned there.

I followed the steps outlined on fop2.com to install fop2 on Ubuntu/Debian installation from a console running "Turnkey Linux Ubuntu LAMP (turnkeylinux.org)".
I attempted to connect the fop2 installation to a different local server running FreePBX Distro and fop2admin. From there I restarted apache2 and tested the connection for fop2 with success from command line.
I then attempted accessing the web address from http://myfop2serveraddress/fop2 and received an apache error that the location wasn't available or a misconfiguration caused an error. It seemed to be an htaccess issue so I modified it slightly (removed everything below magicquotes off) and the login screen appeared but could not connect.
Is this a typical Ubuntu installation issue or is there something else I should be doing?

If you saw the login script, and entered login credentials but from there it failed, then please follow the troubleshooter I posted. Another mistake I see usually is that people copy files to the web directory, but not its subdirectories, in that case the application will be completely broken. If possible you must move the html directory that comes in the tarball as it has all subdirectories and correct permissions for files and directories.
I do not want to type again all what it says in the troubleshooter and that I wrote countless of times in this forum, you can experience issues connecting for several reasons, fop2 server not started, port 4445 blocked, or perhaps it is not that issue but just bad credentials (in the later case, you will be prompted again for exten/pass).
