transfer to voicemail quit working

very weird, it has been working all along but today it stopped. when we try to select the extention to transfer to and click on the transfer to voicemail button the call to be transfered hears voice saying goodbye and the call is disconnected.
normal transfer works ok. all manual transfer blind or attended direct or voice mail not using the panel works fine.How can I troubleshoot this?
I have restarted asterisk and fop2 but still the same. -
I have temporary fixed the issue. On the original installed system I had changed the "Direct Dial Voicemail Prefix" from * to the number 8 for compatibility with the old system.
It has been working great like this all along and the transfer button always worked.
By putting the code back to the "*" the button started to work again.
Perhaps a bug on FOP2 that is not picking up the code change from asterisk?
Would it be possible that freepbx changed something and an updated of freepbx broke FOP2?
I am running the latest 2.7.0.8 core and every module is uptodate.I would like to put it back to "8" since every one is used to that code.
